7 FREE ways to celebrate your birthday
Everyone wants to feel special on the day they were born.
Why not do so with a couple of free ways to celebrate your birthday?
Regardless Of Whether You Would Like To Make A Fuss Of The Day Or Not, You Can Surely Find Free Ways To Celebrate Your Birthday.
I have complied a list, in no particular order of pocket friendly things one can do on their birthday.
And now, introducing my free ways to celebrate your birthday.
1.
Coffee Date
I do not know about you but I like to have coffee as the first thing in the morning. Yes, even on my birthday. So, it makes sense to have it at number 1 for the free ways to celebrate your birthday!
Spoil yourself to a free coffee date when you are part of the Starbucks loyalty rewards programme, this would be automatically added onto your card making it easy for you to just redeem in store. Alternatively, if you have the Vida e caffe loyalty card you can receive the same offer. And hey, if you have both, then more coffee for your date! Both franchises can be found in most malls and popular areas.
2.
Free buffet lunch or dinner
I know of 2 buffet restaurants where you can have lunch for free on your birthday:
Billy G Monte Casino, this is located at Corner William Nicol Rd &, Witkoppen Rd which is in Fourways. In this instance again, you would have to be a part of the Tsogo Sun Montecasino rewards membership programme. If you are reading this and you are not a member, do not worry as you can always apply physically at Montecasino. All you need is your ID and it is absolutely free.
Tuscan BBQ is a buffet restaurant in Groenkloof Pretoria. The good news here is that there is no programme you would need to be a part of. So, you can rock up and fill your tummy for free!
3.
movie date night
(Or day really.) You can spoil yourself to one free movie ticket on your birthday as part of both the Ster Kinekor Club and the Nu Metro Scene Club. Be sure to read the terms and conditions.
This normally includes just the 2D movies and you would have to pay extra for a 3D, however, it is free right?
Again, this is just for the movie ticket, everything else is at your expense. You can check and book online for what is currently playing at the cinema near you.

Gold Reef city theme park
Is gold reef city free on your birthday? YES!
This is a popular birthday destination, and yes, it is totally worth it! The advantage of Gold Reef City is that it is great for the whole family. Besides that, it has a great variety of thrill rides so you have loads to choose from. This theme park is located in Northern Pkwy & Data Cres, Johannesburg.
This place however does not open on Mondays and Tuesday, but no fear if your birthday falls on those days. You can always redeem your free birthday ticket on the Sunday before or Wednesday after your birthday (only).
5.
Aerial cableway
Fortunately, you can pick between Cableway harties located in Hartbeespoort near Pretoria or Cableway Table Mountain in Cape Town, which is both free on your birthday.
The Hartbeespoort cableway is closed on Monday and Tuesday so if your birthday falls on those days you can redeem your free ticket on the Sunday before or Wednesday after. You do not have to worry about that if you are in Cape Town as the cableway in Table Mountain is open every day if the weather permits. I have personally only been to the aerial cableway Hartbeespoort and it was everything I expected and more! Beautiful calming and breath-taking views. monkey sanctuary
Also known as Bush Babies Monkey Sanctuary, this is located on the R104 Old Rustenburg Road Zandfontein in Hartbeespoort. This is a home to a lot of monkeys that were returned by previous owners that could no longer take care of them, as well as those saved from the wild. This attraction site will give you a chance to interact with monkeys. This will be up close and very personal. However, this is totally safe and so much fun!
On this tour, you get a chance to feed different types of monkeys while they roam in their enclosure. This will give you a good show and leave you with great birthday joy. Elephant sanctuary
Located in Plettenberg Bay, Hazyview and Hartbeespoort. The Elephant Sanctuary is my favourite birthday activity amongst all 7 and is the best thing I recommend. Especially if you love animals and wildlife like myself.
You get to meet elephants from all over the continent that have been saved and kept at the sanctuary. On this tour, you get to feed and interact with the elephants. No riding is allowed as that is considered cruelty. However, this is worth the time and such a great experience.
It is a wonderful to be up close with the elephants. One does not have to worry about their safety as the elephants at the sanctuary are very well trained and the guides are knowledgeable, therefore will ensure everything goes well. Please note that it is important to carry identification, as proof of birthday to all the places that do not require a loyalty card/ programme in order to redeem your birthday freebie!!
