Stellenbosch is very well known for the wide selection of wine tastings available in the area, it is the perfect place for some Wine Tasting Cape Town, Stellenbosch. When in Cape Town, the opportunity came by to visit the House of JC le Roux. This particular wine house is about 35 minutes from Cape Town central and it is well worth the drive.
At the House of JC le Roux specifically, the tastings are divided into 5 categories:
- Nougat experience
- Sparkling wine tasting
- MCC tasting
- Bubbly per glass
3 Vibrazio and 2 Selection Vivante
So, you can choose one (or do all) depending on your preference, the tastings are charged per person and vary from 25 South African Rands per glass to 120 South African Rands per person per tasting (at the time). As a bonus, the tasting includes an informative tour of the wine house. I did the 3 Vibrazio and 2 Selection Vivante, it has more variety.
The Plus side:
The wine house has a restaurant upstairs where one can enjoy hearty meals with (yes you guessed it) some JC le Roux. Here you can order a full bottle of wine, should be easy to do considering that you had just tasted the selection downstairs.
The best service was experienced upon visiting the restaurant. You can expect a beautiful setting with the most beautiful view, it is definitely recommended.
The food was very good besides the obvious option of alcohol. Having initially gone there just for the wine, menu variety very satisfying. Again, emphasis on the fact that the restaurant was empty upon arrival so the food was very fresh.
The price for meals is approximately 300 South African Rand’s, sharing. This would be excluding alcohol. There is also a number of reviews on Zomato for extra reference, however, this is a place to visit again.
Other wine farms to try some cape town wine travel?
Stellenbosch has a wide variety of wine farms, this is what the area is best known for. If you have the time you can visit a couple of them, most of them are listed on this site. Remember to stay safe, and not to drink and drive.
