The Lion and Safari Park

Where is the Lion and Safari Park

First and foremost, location. The Lion and Safari Park is located on the R512 Pelindaba road in Hartbeespoort. This is a very easily accessible location, just 30 minutes away from Pretoria Central and the perfect short-left on the way to or from Hartbeespoort. And while you are there, do visit my blog to see things you can do in Harties.

Giraffe Feeding

Overall thought of the lion park in Hartbeespoort

I have been to the Lion Park twice now, I will start with my pre-covid experience. I loved it there and took the guided tour in their safari truck, it was my first time being so close to the predators and the trucks made me feel “safer”. The tour was fun and informative and would recommend it. Before the pandemic visitors were allowed to interact with the cubs as can be seen in the image above. I loved the experience! It was honestly the highlight of my visit however I understand why it had to be put on hold.

Now my second visit? Right in the middle of us dealing with covid we obviously opted for a self drive to avoid being with too many people. Now it is VERY important to follow the rules on the self drive, such as keeping windows and doors shut at all times for your own safety. The advantage of the self drive option is that you can drive at your own pace and revisit any of the animals for some last picture perfect shots.

As can be seen above there are lots of other animals to see on the drive from giraffes, zebras, springboks, hyenas and a lot more.

Side Notes

Besides the tours themselves there is a lot to do at the Lion Park. They have a wide range of restaurants and also some Giraffe feeding. There is a dome shopping experience, photographic store and even some river rafting. This makes for the perfect place for the whole family to have something to enjoy.

I must mention that in both the times I have been there (this was during the day) the lions were hiding under trees and sleeping, I was not happy with the pictures I took at all! So if you plan on visiting the Lion Park perhaps opt for a sunset drive for a better experience!
