Sun City Resort is South Africa’s most popular holiday resort

So, your girl finally made it to Sun City. A destination that I have wanted to go to for a while now. I would also like to highlight that I drove there myself!! Yup, I am not fond of driving so this is a huge achievement L.O.L, not as terrible as I imagined though because if you have been following my travels you would know that I had been as far as Hartbeespoort. Sun City is only about an hour and a half from there.

Where is Sun City Resort?

Now the direct location, this resort is situated in the North West Province right on the R556, South Africa. This is just under 2 hours drive from Pretoria Central.

First thoughts when I arrived?

A bit disappointed to be honest, I expected something very fancy. I kept asking my friend if this is the famous Sun City Resort? But yes, I was in for a surprise.

Sun City Resort Accommodation

There is a variety of hotels to choose from, well according to affordability which are:

Cabanas
Cascades
Soho
Palace of the City

We (myself and my friend) stayed at the Cabanas, which is probably the cheapest package you can get there. The hotel stay comes with a free breakfast and entrance to the valley of the waves every day.

Checked in now what?

If there is one thing you do not have to worry about at sun city it is getting bored while on the trip. There is so much variety in the activities, shops and even bars one can visit at the resort.

Golf courses
Casinos
Different restaurants and bars
Kid’s entertainment such as a play area
Shopping

Things I got to do:

Valley of the waves: Sun City’s famous water park that has a wide variety of rides and pools as well as of course simulated waves for lots of fun
Maze: The maze of the lost city is exactly that, a maze where you need to find your way out. The final destination? A bar!!
Restaurants: You are spoilt with choice of different eateries to choose from at different locations on the resort
Events: I had the pleasure of attending the Homecoming events Sun City edition at the resort

Overall experience of Sun City Resort

I found it very interesting that you feel like you are in a whole different city when you are in the resort, everything is catered for from restaurants to shopping, you would have no reason to leave the resort to stock up on any necessities. I loved the fact that the last time I saw my car was when I checked in, the resort is huge and, conveniently, they have 24hour shuttles running to transport you throughout. A huge plus if you’re there to check out all the bars!

With that, you cannot run short of entertainment. We tried to do so much in one weekend and still couldn’t get everything done. I would highly recommend it because I did enjoy my first experience there, I do however think that I wouldn’t enjoy it as much the second time around. However, it is a place I would like to take the kids to. I like how they cater so much for families to comfortable and even go as far as offering babysitting services. Definitely, a place you would want to bring your family to.
