God's Window Mpumalanga

Nature, peace, and tranquility.
That is the response I received from a friend when I asked her what I should expect in God’s Window Mpumalanga.
Was she wrong? No, it was all of that and so much more.

I am from Johannesburg, born and bred here. I am very used to the fast-paced city life, traffic-filled streets, and pollution filled air. This trip location was specifically chosen to get a city break and refill my energy levels. It was perfect! The experience gave me motivation to write this Mpumalanga cheap travel blog.

Now, Mpumalanga (direct translation means “the place where the sun rises”). It is about 4 hours away from the city centre depending on where exactly in Mpumalanga you are going. The province is well known for its natural attractions, I will mention the ones I managed to get to later. And of course it is the home of the Kruger National Park. So just from a basic Google search you would be able to see what the province offers and if this would be a suitable vacation location for you. The most popular would be God’s Window and the Kruger National Park..

The planning of the trip was not so difficult

I stayed at the African Silks Farm (Tsanana Log Cabins and Mullberry Lanes Suites). I booked this cabin through Travelground as I had used it before. This accommodation is well recommended. It is very (very) deep in the forests of Graskop so you can expect to add more travel time, however it is well worth it.

The accommodation is isolated cabins with a private jacuzzi nearby, braai area as well as a shared pool. You can expect to wake up to monkeys playing on the roof as well as the most beautiful scenery of the woods. This is self-catering cabins however there is a restaurant on the premises. The other plus is that the location is quite central therefore it is easier to access most of the tourist attraction sites from there including God’s Window. Additionally, it is close to the little town of Graskop where you can find restaurants (see my blog about Harries Pancakes in Graskop here) as well as local restaurants.

The accommodation was the best part of this trip, however Mpumalanga has a wide range of very beautiful and scenic accommodations so be sure to look around depending on your budget before booking.

The local tourist attractions are quite far from each other so obviously a car is an essential. I would suggest planning routes, depending on what you would like to see, beforehand. Also note that some of the sites require an entrance fee so be sure to keep some cash on you as I am not sure if they swipe or not.

I found this site very helpful when looking for things to do, there A LOT of options so just pick whatever resonates with you. A personal recommendation for the adventure junkies here.

So, I got to see the following Sites:

  • God’s Window
  • Lisbon Falls
  • Pinnacle Rock
  • The Big Swing (No I didn’t jump, I chickened out)
  • Kruger National Park

You can check out the pictures I took of these locations on my Instagram. A personal recommendation that you won’t find on Google: Make sure you wear comfortable clothes most importantly comfortable shoes. Also grab a cap and some sunscreen because we don’t want sunburn.

Mpumalanga is a beautiful road trip experience very peaceful and yes it has the most beautiful views. With regards to safety, I did not once feel unsafe in the province also did not have to worry about having to be EXTRA cautious. It is honestly very relaxed, but one obviously always has to remain vigilant regardless.

The last stop on the trip before heading home was Induna Adventures. There are multiple outdoor activities that one can do at this facility that includes, and not limited to paintballing, ziplining, tubing, etc. However, I just opted for horseback riding this was a first experience for me. The horseback riding is done through scenic routes with well-trained horses which helped calm my nerves a lot, so this is also something I would recommend doing on the trip

The SouthAfrican Explorer Review:

Did I enjoy the trip? Yes
Would I go back? Hell Yes
Side Notes: Mpumalanga is VERY beautiful and hard not to enjoy especially if you enjoy nature and the outdoors. Writing this God’s Window Mpumalanga cheap travel blog was not difficult. It is definitely a place I would revisit as there is still so much more to see. However, I would emphasize the route planning to maximize the site seeing time.

  1. For an IT person, I like the simplicity of your writing and enjoyed reading your experience, now I might just get a travel bug from this blog.

  2. Mpumalanga is indeed a really peaceful place for one to relax and unwind at! My wife and I went to God’s window last year and experienced a really breathtaking moment by exploring nature at it’s best. We really loved the place and would most definitely visit it again to see more beautiful places around there too.

Hi Refilwe, I agree with you there. I yet to see a place as peaceful as Mpumalanga, I am planning on returning there myself.

  5. Hey! It’s such a wonderful post! I totally loved it and the way you gave it a glint. Checked your Instagram collections, they are amazing. I really want to be there someday. Added this to my bucket list ✌ Thanks for sharing .

  6. I’m impressed, I have to admit. Rarely do I encounter a blog that’s
equally educative and engaging, and let me tell you, you have hit the nail on the
head. The problem is something that too few folks are
speaking intelligently about. Now i’m very happy that I stumbled across this in my search
    for something regarding this.
